Protect Our Winters is a nonprofit, with a mission to turn passionate outdoor people into effective climate advocates. They work with elite athletes, forward-thinking business leaders and brands, and outdoor recreationists as a whole to advocate for systemic climate change policy.
Their goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To get there, they believe the world must embrace renewable energy, electric transportation, carbon pricing policies and prevent fossil fuel extraction on our public lands. Fortunately, the outdoor community knows a thing or two about achieving goals.
Boulder, CO – Protect Our Winters (POW) proudly announces the launch of POW Climb, a unique division of the POW Alliance focused on engaging the climbing community in climate action. To better represent all outdoor communities impacted by climate change, POW welcomes professional climber Tommy Caldwell to the Alliance, as well as the support of respected outdoor brand La Sportiva and climbing nonprofit the American Alpine Club.
Caldwell brings years of professional climbing experience and accomplishment to the team, most recently completing the highly-coveted first free climb of the Dawn Wall of El Capitan.
With a name like Protect Our Winters, it’s no surprise that our history is rooted in the snow community with snowboarders and skiers. But if you’ve been following along with POW, you know that protecting our winters is about much more than protecting snow. It’s about protecting our public lands from dirty energy extraction, protecting progress on renewable energy development and participating in climate change policy and legislation. The conversation started with snow, but now we’re getting everyone who plays outside involved.
